East China's Jiangsu province recently released its first list of model schools for scientific education during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).
Among the 60 schools are Nanjing Chengxianjie Primary School, Nanjing Yuhuatai High School, and Zhenjiang High School.
Each of these model schools meets the high standards set by the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, said a director from the Jiangsu Youth Science and Technology Education Center.
For example, the schools need to compile their own scientific reading materials, build related infrastructure, have permanent off-campus scientific education bases, as well as work with other schools and communities to hold scientific activities.
The 60 schools on the list also hold science festivals every year, and many of them have set up a team of tutors comprising scientists and technicians as well as established partnerships with research institutes, companies and science museums to organize activities on a regular basis.
Jiangsu plans to select 150 such model schools by the end of 2025 to encourage teenagers to learn scientific knowledge and skills.
