A total of 21 universities in East China's Jiangsu province were ranked among the top 1,000 in the 2021 Academic Ranking of World Universities, which was released on Aug 15 by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.

Jiangsu province topped the nation in terms of number of universities included in the list of top 1,000 universities in the world.

Nanjing University, Southeast University, and Soochow University landed in the top 200 worldwide, affirming that they are the leading universities in the province and that they have maintained strong competitiveness.

The following ranked Jiangsu universities were Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Jiangsu University, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing Medical University, and Nanjing Tech University, each ranking between the top 300 to 400 on the list.

Nanjing Normal University and Yangzhou University made their first appearances in the top 500, joining China University of Mining and Technology, as well as Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology in being ranked between the top 400 to 500 universities in the world.

The list saw a total of 157 universities from the Chinese mainland ranking in the top 1,000.
