Soochow University signed agreements with the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, the Jiangsu Commission of Health, and the Suzhou Municipal Government on July 7 to jointly develop its medical college and an affiliated hospital.

Soochow University has a 109-year history in medical education. The Soochow University Medical College was established in 2008.

According to the agreement, the Medical College will have relatively independent management and be supported in aspects like education, scientific and technological research and development, talents cultivation, and faculty development.

The provincial education department will support the medical college in talent cultivation, discipline development, and financing, said Ge Daokai, director of the Jiangsu Education Department.

Soochow University will accelerate the generation and application of symbolic medical research achievements guided by clinical needs, as well as cultivate outstanding medical talents with an international perspective, said Xiong Sidong, principal of the university.
