ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, a professional higher-education evaluation agency, published the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects on Oct 27, ranking 17 disciplines of Jiangnan University in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province.

The university's food science and engineering was ranked first, marking a fifth successive win, while its textile science and engineering was ranked second and its bioengineering discipline was among the world's top 20.
The school of food science and technology at Jiangnan University had collected more than 25,000 probiotics as of June 30 last year, including 200 patented ones. Shanghai-based Bright Dairy & Food Co also cooperated with the university to develop a new fermentation technology, which helped them secure the second prize at the National Technology Invention Awards in 2018.

The ranking this year covered 55 disciplines and combed over 5,000 universities around the world. More than 1,900 universities from 104 countries and regions appeared on the list, including 333 from the Chinese mainland.
