Xuzhang subdistrict – located in the Taizhou Port Economic Development Zone of Taizhou city, East China's Jiangsu province – has launched what it calls a "day and night" initiative to boost community spirit and life.
The program takes advantage of evening hours to offer a range of fun activities – such as sports, reading sessions and artistic performances – to make cultural experiences more accessible and enjoyable.
In the Sanxing and Kongqiao communities, square dance events called "Dancing for a Colorful Life" have been launched.
Enthusiastic participants perform synchronized routines, creating a lively atmosphere that attracts passersby. These events not only promote physical fitness and dance skills, but also strengthen community ties.
Elsewhere, in Zhouzi community a reading activity called Night Culture aims to enrich children's summer cultural experience and extend reading into the evening. Families gather to read and share stories, fostering a love of literature.

"We hope this nighttime reading event will encourage parents to spend more time reading with their children and make reading a regular part of their daily routine," said Wang Yuping, secretary of Zhouzi community.
Looking ahead, Xuzhang subdistrict plans to expand its offerings with more engaging activities to make nighttime cultural practices more vibrant and enjoyable.
