Costing 4.38 billion yuan ($603.66 million), the Ecology-Oriented Development, or EOD mode pilot project – conducted by the Taixing High-tech Zone in Taixing city, East China's Jiangsu province – finished construction recently.
It's comprised of 17 subprojects, which were completed followed by the acceptance inspection of the fifth phase of the subproject – the Taixing Smart City and Surrounding Supporting Facilities Construction Project (Wealth Center) – on May 24.
The zone is exploring models like environmental protection plus industrial tourism and environmental protection – in addition to specialist industries – to bolster its industrial agglomeration and green development.
The pilot project obtained a bank loan of 1.76 billion yuan. The land premium and new profit of companies involved there have been used as project investment funds, ensuring the investment needs of each subproject.
Xu Hui, director of the zone's management committee, said that by implementing the pilot project, a standard factory building of 420,000 square meters was introduced, attracting over 100 enterprises to settle there.
The zone has also built a sewage treatment plant with a daily processing capacity of 10,000 metric tons, supported by the construction of sewage pipeline networks and a tail water ecological safety buffer zone – thereby enhancing the overall capacity and level of regional environmental governance.
In recent years, the Fengqi Lake scenic area in the zone has been promoted to a 3A level scenic spot, combining science education industry tourism, Party building cultural tourism and eco-friendly leisure tourism.
In 2023, the proportion of days with good air quality in the zone reached 80.6 percent, while the zone's water quality of rivers reached Class III standard.
