There are now 40 companies in Taixing city – administered by Taizhou city, in East China's Jiangsu province – that are powering ahead the village collective economy.
Called Qaingcun companies, they are co-developed by villages and private and State-owned enterprises, in a bid to promote the village collective economy's move towards a "development-oriented" model.
In the Binjiang Modern Agricultural Industrial Park – located in Binjiang town in Taixing – the high-tech glass greenhouses built by a Qiangcun company have become a new driving force for the bountiful harvest of organic strawberries.
The park has built a modern smart agriculture center integrating functions – such as seedling cultivation, planting and sorting – to plant premium produce like strawberries and cherry tomatoes.
Based on its local strengths, Binjiang town has continued to attract cultural and tourism projects, as well as creating two major agricultural areas – the Binjiang Modern Agricultural Science and Technology Industrial Park in the northern area and Daoxiang Huahai in the southern area.
Binjiang town now cultivates quality strawberries, honey pears, grapes and cherries, with an annual output value of 240 million yuan ($33.45 million) for its fruit and vegetables.
