Taixing city – administered by Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province – is currently building and installing its first project that integrates fish farming and solar power generation in the Taixing Economic Development Zone.

By installing solar power panels above the water surface of a large pond, the water below can be used for fish and shrimp farming. The solar panels also function as a great shelter for the fish breeding and farming.

Costing 230 million yuan ($31.32 million), the work is being funded by State Energy Group Taizhou Power Generation Co Ltd and is scheduled to start operating by the end of the year.

To date, 70 percent of the pipe piles installation in the photovoltaic area has been completed, with the construction of brackets and components now underway.

Moreover, the basic building installation work for the switching station has been completed. The contractors will go for full-capacity grid connected power generation by the end of November.

Once up and running, the project will transmit an estimated 56.27 million kilowatts of green electricity per year. Compared to thermal power with the same power generation capacity, it can save 17,200 metric tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 46,800 tons annually.
