Binjiang town – located in Taixing city in East China's Jiangsu province – has moved to expand its rural collective economy, leading the locals onto the path to prosperity.
A competition that evaluated industrial and rural development in Binjiang was held there recently, with the participation of officials from 12 villages.
Inspiring examples of boosting rural income – including land transfers, village-enterprise cooperation, greenhouse construction and generating investment income – were exchanged during the competition.
Yong Liuming, an official from Xiaomazhuang village, recounted how an idle factory there was transformed and achieved peak utilization, with the support of the village committee.
Elsewhere, Chu Xincheng, an official from Sanlian village, said a number of emerging industries had successively settled there, which were generating more jobs for villagers.
Expanding the collective economy is seen as being vital for the modern rural development of Binjiang. In 2022, the collective operating income of 31 villages in the town topped 700,000 yuan ($101,790) and the per capita disposable income of farmers reached 32,615 yuan, up 7.76 percent year-on-year.
