The renovation and expansion of the Guangling-Jingjiang section of the Beijing–Shanghai Expressway has made significant progress, with the western half (traveling from Beijing to Shanghai) of the road expected to open to traffic in mid to late December.
The Guangling-Jingjiang section is an important component of the national and provincial expressway networks, as well as the northern connection of Jiangyin Bridge and Jiangyin-Jingjiang Yangtze River Tunnel.
The total length of the renovation and expansion project is about 10.54 kilometers, with the Taixing section starting from the Guangling interchange in the north and ending at the Jingtai boundary river in the south.
The project will widen the original six lane road in both directions to ten lane road in both directions, with a designed speed of 120 kilometers per hour and a roadbed width of 49.5 meters. The Guangling service area will also be renovated.
After the opening of the western half, the eastern half will be closed to traffic and construction will begin. The plan is to complete the renovation and expansion in June next year.
