As a major investor in the project, COFCO Trading – a subsidiary of COFCO Group, China's leading agricultural and food company – will build a 400,000-metric-ton silo, install two ship loaders and four cranes and erect support facilities with the help of two shareholders.

Costing 2.47 billion yuan ($340 million) in total, the complex will cover an area of 383 mu (25.53 hectares). It is expected to finish construction by the end of next year and start operating in 2026.

On completion, the facility will handle more than 13 million tons of grains annually and be a large, highly-automated grain wharf in the Yangtze River's estuary area.

Moreover, it's expected to grow into an important grain logistics hub and help China build a safe and stable food supply chain.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Jiang Jianyou, general manager of Jiangsu State Farms Group Co, said his company would fully facilitate the high-quality growth of the project as a shareholder.
