A new logistics terminal paved the way for Jingjiang Port – located in East China's Jiangsu province – to ramp up its throughput in the first half of the year.

Its introduction has really boosted things at the port – as could be seen on June 4, when a fully loaded cargo vessel was rapidly and efficiently discharging its coal with the help of an unloading machine, a bucket wheel machine and a closed-belt corridor transportation system at the terminal.

The smart technology and intelligent system of the terminal, which opened in May, enabled the whole process to be conducted in an efficient and eco-friendly manner.

Also in May, port operators, logistics companies, as well as grain traders nationwide came together at a conference in Jingjiang to delve into the range of strategies and approaches that can be applied to the modernization of ports.

At the event, the operator of Jingjiang Port signed a new round of cooperative framework agreements with Jinzhou Port in Northeast China's Liaoning province, in a bid to boost the leapfrog development of the port economy.

Since the two sides began their strategic cooperation in 2014, the Jinzhou-Jingjiang route has transported more than 16 million tons of grain, accounting for 70 percent of Jinzhou's grain transportation volume to the Yangtze River region.

It also made Jingjiang a key transfer base for cross-region grain delivery projects in China.

In the smart logistics area of Jingjiang Port, the vessels and machines are also operating at full swing. The three giant multi-span enclosed steel-structure grain storage canopies are particularly eye-catching there.

According to Xu Xiaoling, deputy general manager of the local port terminal operator, the company erected the facility to avoid wind-blown grain particles.
