Jingjiang city's offshore equipment and high-tech shipbuilding industry has been selected as one of 45 national advanced manufacturing clusters, highlighting its significance for the industrial ecosystem of Taizhou city.

It's a county-level city on the Yangtze River administered by the prefecture-level city – Taizhou – in East China's Jiangsu province and the recognition was recently announced by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

As one of three major shipbuilding bases in Jiangsu, the industrial cluster boasts 529 offshore and shipbuilders, which generated total industrial output value of 57.2 billion yuan ($8.02 billion) in 2022.

Its performance in three major shipbuilding indicators – namely, completion of shipbuilding orders, current orders and new orders – underscored that Jingjiang has become a pioneer in shipbuilding in China.

The deputy director of the municipal bureau of industry and information's high-end equipment and high-tech ship division, Ni Qidong, said they wanted to further bolster the industry's competitiveness and innovation capabilities.

To do so, they would lay out plans to boost research and development, improve ship support capabilities and product competitiveness and increase the level of intelligent and green construction.

"The goal is for the offshore equipment and high-tech shipbuilding industry to become the pillar and engine of Taizhou's high-quality development," Ni added.
