An ancient canal in Taizhou city – located in East China's Jiangsu province – has been revived to great acclaim.
Dating back to the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24), the Laotongyang Canal was commissioned by King Liu Bi of Wu State and stretches for 191 kilometers.
As one of the world's oldest hydraulic marvels of its kind, it historically played a pivotal role in bygone salt and grain transportation.

In recent years, the Jiangyan district of Taizhou city has undertaken an initiative to elevate the aesthetics of the Laotongyang Canal greenway, breathing new life into its surroundings.
Last year, the fitness trail along the canal was honored as the most picturesque running route in the province, while the canal itself earned the prized title of being one of the city's Top 10 waterways and lakes.
