The breeding area for the local variety of crabs in the Qinhu River covers 57,000 mu (3,800 hectares), with an annual output of over 5,600 metric tons.
The crabs are primarily supplied to markets in the cities of Shanghai, Wuhan and Nanjing.
This year, the crabs are widely said to be of higher quality compared with previous years due to favorable weather conditions and a longer growth cycle.
