A cafeteria for senior residents in the Taihe community of Jingtai Road sub-district, Hailing district, Taizhou, Jiangsu province, has been warmly welcomed by locals since its trial operations began on Oct 16.
“The meals here are tasty and affordable. It's also close to home, which is very convenient," said lady Wang, a resident of Taihe community.
The cafeteria underwent trial operations earlier this year. However, diners were dissatisfied with the limited variety of dishes and the overall taste of the food. Therefore, staff from Jingtai Road sub-district and Taihe community visited other cities, including Wuxi, Changzhou, and Taizhou, to learn how to provide better services.
After the upgrade, the cafeteria collaborated with catering companies to offer four dishes for lunch every day, with the menu updated weekly. The prices have also become more affordable.
In addition, a charitable donation of 200,000 yuan ($28,016.97) will be used to provide extra meal subsidies for low-income households and individuals in need in the community.
For senior residents with mobility issues, the community also offers meal delivery services.
