In response to the increasing focus on the country's carbon peak, carbon neutrality and new energy solutions, battery manufacturer Taizhou Nana Energy Technology Co Ltd – based in Hailing Industrial Park, in Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province – is acting.
It's expanding its production capabilities to meet the rising demand for sodium-ion rechargeable batteries – an alternative to more costly lithium batteries.
These batteries, which have gained attention for their lower costs, superior performance and broader market prospects compared with lithium-ion batteries, are said to be poised to play a significant role in the transition to sustainable energy solutions.
Founded in June 2023 as a subsidiary of Jiangsu Zoolnasm Energy Technology Co Ltd, Taizhou Nana Energy Technology Co Ltd is making significant strides in the new energy sector.
The company recently broke ground on a new production facility with a floor space of around 25,000 square meters in the Hailing Industrial Park. The complex will primarily focus on the production of sodium-ion battery modules for new energy applications and will house two sodium-ion battery PACK lines.
On completion, the new facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of 5 gigawatt-hours of sodium-ion battery system modules. With an annual sales target of 600 million yuan ($82.84 million) and a predicted tax contribution of 10 million yuan, the company aims to establish itself as a leading supplier of sodium-ion batteries.
According to Xu Hua, general manager of the company's business unit, the transition of sodium-ion battery technology from research to practical applications has been a gradual process.
However, with the successful development of its Poly-Na 1 battery, which took about a year and a half to move from laboratory to commercialization, the company says it's now optimistic about the future of sodium-ion batteries.
