Taihe community in the Hailing district of Taizhou city – in East China's Jiangsu province – has created a special canteen for its senior citizens, to enable them to enjoy their meals more conveniently.
Based on a local elderly care service center, Taihe community has set up dining facilities for seniors, offering them dining and delivery services.
Having begun operating on Jan 3, the canteen is also a home away from home for local elderly folks, where they can chat with each other and play chess and cards for entertainment, said Zuo Min, an official from Taihe community.
Taihe community is the largest affordable housing resettlement community in Taizhou, with the elderly population accounting for 80 percent of total residents.
Previously, special groups such as empty-nest elderly and severely disabled people were faced with difficulties in cooking and having their meals.
