A new photovoltaic battery plant in the Hailing Industrial Park – located in Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province – that uses advanced hybrid passivated back contact cell, or HPBC technology, has been classified as a major provincial project in the current year.
That's according to the List of Major Industrial Projects in Jiangsu Province in 2023, which was released recently.
The HPBC photovoltaic battery project is being funded by Chinese group LONGi Green Energy Technology Co Ltd, the listed manufacturer that is ranked top of the country's photovoltaic industry.
It took the company three years and over 1 billion yuan ($144.10 million) to develop the HPBC battery technology and the battery is said to be the most efficient of its kind in the industry.
The plant covers an area of 450 mu (30 hectares) and 700 sets of manufacturing equipment are being installed. On completion, it's expected to generate sales worth 20 billion yuan annually.
A highlight is said to be that the plant brings in cutting-edge intelligent and instrumented production lines from home and abroad, aiming to create a demonstration plant that is intelligent and is a leader in digital transformation.
