A sodium-ion battery manufacturing plant to be operated by Jiangsu Zoolnasm Co Ltd will be built in the Hailing district of Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province, following a signing ceremony held on Dec 27.
The project has a total investment of 1 billion yuan ($145.67 million) and when ramped up to design capacity, the plant will produce 5 gigawatt-hours of sodium ion batteries annually. That's expected to generate annual invoiced sales of 1.5 billion yuan.
Compared with lithium batteries, sodium ion batteries have more reserves, are low cost and have a higher safety factor. Production is a more eco-friendly process and they have a superior high and low temperature performance and a strong ion diffusion capability.
Sodium-ion battery products can be widely used in the construction of communications base stations, large-scale energy storage power stations, as well as in low-speed electric vehicles, electric bicycles and in other fields.
Jiangsu Zoolnasm Co Ltd, founded in 2021, currently owns more than 20 core patents. It has completed four rounds of financing over 100 million yuan each since then, helping to make it a pioneering force in the sector.
