Four Austrian journalists and a number of domestic reporters visited local attractions in Hailing district, Taizhou, East China's Jiangsu province, during the ''China Up Close'' tour from Oct 14 to 15.
Taizhou is the hometown of legendary Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang. Meiyuan Garden, now the Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall, was Mei's former residence and houses historical artifacts related to him.
Marlies Eder, deputy head of the Foreign News Department at the Austrian newspaper Die Presse, said after visiting Meiyuan Garden that Mei Lanfang's artistic achievements are vividly presented through these historical artifacts, which offer a chance to appreciate the richness of Chinese opera culture.
Journalists also admired the magnificent scenery of Hailing from Wanghai Pavilion, one of Taizhou's iconic buildings.
Freelance journalist Martin Sörös said that Hailing's beautiful and unique cultural and tourist attractions, along with its exquisite morning tea, were truly eye-opening.
