The urban renewal project at the north entrance of the Handong historical and cultural block – located in Hailing district of Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province – is currently nearing completion.
The Handong and Hanxi historical and cultural blocks were the first batch of historical and cultural blocks involved, which are home to 37 immovable cultural relics sites.
The urban renewal project at the north entrance started in 2021. It was launched to rejuvenate the Caohe River and its embankments, three cultural heritage units and historical buildings, traditional houses, as well as to revamp time-honored shops.
At present, 85 percent of the project has been completed and the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
In the past, there were numerous shops and prominent and leading locals residing on both sides of the Caohe River and now people can still see the original traditional way of life of the people living there.
