A spectacular light show performed by 400 unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, lit up the night sky on Aug 5 over the Fengcheng River Scenic Area – in the Hailing district of Taizhou city, in East China's Jiangsu province – creating a visual extravaganza for delighted spectators.
By continuously altering their positions, the drones presented a wonderful range of characters and patterns in vivid color related to Taizhou, wowing the audience.
"The show showcased elements of Taizhou and allowed us to learn more about the city. It was fantastic," said a visitor from Hai'an city, located in the province.
The organizers said the affair took a lot of preparation. "In order to present the desired image, it was necessary to arrange each pixel in advance and plan the flight trajectory according to the required pattern," said Mao Zhiyong, the show's technical director.
To ensure the safety and stability of the flight, the performance team began detailed preparations work such as measuring wind speeds, eliminating electromagnetic interference and checking batteries, Mao added.
The show was organized by the Taizhou Culture and Tourism Smart Technology Co Ltd, a subsidiary of the Taizhou Culture and Tourism Group.
"The drone performance is an important attempt to make technology empower the cultural industry and more high-tech means will be used to innovate tourism products and showcase the city's image," said Xu Haibin, general manager of the organizers.
