During the springtime, agricultural businesses in Hailing district – located in Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province – have been busy helping to grow the local seeds industry, shipping quality product to market.
Each day, State-owned Jiangsu Hongqi Seed Co Ltd has been busy delivering 250,000 kilograms of seeds all over the country. It annually invests more than 5 percent of total sales into research and development of paddy rice and wheat rice and has developed nearly 100 varieties of seeds.
At its 180 mu (12 hectares) testing area, a new wheat species named Luomai 163 has flourished. It is expected to generate an output of 550 kg per mu in harvest season, more than 50 kg higher than the common species of wheat.

Elsewhere, Jiangsu Hao Run Biotechnology Co Ltd – a company focusing on health aquaculture – developed a national-level species of juvenile crabs, which can be seen as "seeds" of crabs and its sales volume hit nearly 50,000 kg last year.
Meanwhile, Suzhong Horticulture and Flower Production Base in Hailing district, with the largest single intelligent greenhouse in Asia, sends 28 million or so top-quality seedlings and 3.5 million flowers to the market every year.
That output generates total sales of more than 100 million yuan ($14.52 million).
