Some 20 communities in the Jingtai Road sub-district of Hailing district – in Taizhou city, in East China's Jiangsu province – have set up special boxes to provide free medicine for residents in need.
In addition, 10 service teams have been set up to serve key groups, including people over 65 years old, children under six and pregnant women.
These teams have distributed notices to the homes of people in key groups with the contact information of doctors, to ensure they get medical treatment quickly.
Lyu Xuefeng, a doctor in the service team, said that recently each team had received about 50 calls for help every day due to the high number of patients with respiratory infections.
Doctors assess the patient's condition at once and can send the patient to a higher-level hospital for treatment depending on their condition, Lyu added.
After the adjustment of the COVID-19 prevention and control policy, communities have become the nearest places for residents to get medical treatment.
It is said that the doctors working in the 10 medical service stations in Jingtai Road sub-district have insisted on doing shift work, in order to better serve residents and eliminate their anxiety.
