Roosin Medical, a company located in the Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone in Taizhou city, East China's Jiangsu province, has developed hyper-effective calcium alginate dressing.
This is a gauze that can be dissolved into gel when encountering a wound, physiological saline or even ordinary water.
When torn off, it does not stick to the wound like traditional gauze, so it can avoid causing secondary damage to patients, said Chen Dayong, chief engineer of the company.
Relying on its complete production line of calcium alginate dressings, Roosin Medical obtained a first Class III medical device registration certificate in China in the field of high-end medical functional dressings in 2017.
With the increasing demand for wound healing and antibacterial properties, there is an urgent need for a dressing with further improved antibacterial performance, which spurred Roosin Medical on to make series and functional attempts around calcium alginate dressings.
In 2023, the company developed its calcium alginate dressing containing silver ion. The dressing can continuously and slowly release silver ions for over seven days and can maintain a 99.99 percent sterilization rate within seven days under strict laboratory standards, meeting the clinical needs of most wound treatments.
The company is continuing to try to add non-traditional elements to its dressings to meet the diverse needs of users. For example, its calcium alginate dressing that contains honey has now entered the clinical trial stage.
