Highlighting the main industry drivers of health, high-end equipment manufacturing, electronics information and chemicals new materials, the Taizhou Medial High-tech Zone, located in Taizhou city, East China's Jiangsu province, is persisting in making innovation the core of developing new quality productive forces.

The term "new quality productive forces" is a key one in this year's national Government Work Report. According to the report, China will strive to modernize its industrial system and develop new quality productive forces at a faster pace.

"Compared to volume, we care more about quality. We prefer to attract the projects of emerging industries, future industries and projects that are in the incubation period but have development prospects," said Wang Yingjun, deputy director of the zone's management committee.

Costing 125 million yuan ($17.23 million), zone resident group QL Biopharm (Taizhou) Co Ltd is said to be committed to developing innovative biological drugs for the treatment of chronic metabolic diseases such as diabetes and obesity.

The company is projected to provide Phase III clinical samples for its Smegglutide Biomimetic project starting from July.

"The product is expected to be approved for marketing in 2026 and can achieve an annual output of 40 million Smegglutide Biomimetic injections – meeting the needs of over 3 million diabetes patients and weight loss people and generating sales of 4 to 5 billion yuan annually," Wang said.

Moreover, smoothing the entire supply chain for scientific research achievements to commercialize and enter the market faster is seen as a breakthrough point for the zone to develop new quality productive forces.

This year, the zone will build core technology platforms for drug non-clinical evaluations, drug clinical trials and P3 laboratories, as well as comprehensively build a public service platform system covering the entire lifecycle of pharmaceuticals developments.

To unleash the innovation momentum of business enterprises and stimulate the innovation vitality of personnel, this year the zone has allocated 20 million yuan of funds to support innovative development.
