The Gaogang district of Taizhou city – located in East China's Jiangsu province – is said to be making significant progress in promoting its eco-friendly and sustainable development.
Since the start of the year, the district has focused on preventing and controlling air, water and soil pollution.

As a result, the average concentration of PM2.5 – a key measure of airborne pollution – improved by 5.2 percentage points from January to August, compared with the previous year.
Moreover, the percentage of excellent air quality also increased by 6.1 percentage points in the same period.
In addition, the water quality in several rivers, such as Nanguan River and Gumagan River, has met key provincial standards.
What's more, the proportion of Class III surface water quality reached 100 percent at centralized drinking water sources.
To ensure high-quality regulatory services for market business, the district's ecological environment bureau has strengthened its environmental supervision and optimized the business environment.
Concrete measures have been taken to ensure clear water and blue skies, with 74 cases of environmental violations investigated and dealt with since the beginning of the year.
Additionally, 41 administrative penalty decisions have been issued and 573 valid environmental petitions have been accepted, all achieving a 100 percent completion rate.
