A report about the Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone's screening of 120,000 people for Helicobacter pylori was released on May 15.
The report, which was based on the findings of the project conducted by the zone in Taizhou city, East China's Jiangsu province, found that 40.11 percent of the people screened are infected with Helicobacter pylori. The drug resistance rate of the sampled people was found to be greater than 50 percent.
In terms of gender, 40.99 percent of males and 39.38 percent of females were found to be infected.
In terms of ages, 17.45 percent of those under 10 years old and 27.03 percent of those between 11 and 20 years old are affected. For people from 21 to 30 years old, the infection rate jumped to 39.81 percent. For those between 30 and 70 years old, the infection rate is between 39 percent and 44 percent.

Helicobacter pylori is a type of bacteria that infects the stomach and one of the causes of gastric cancer.
The Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone started providing free gastrointestinal health screening services for local residents in 2021, Taizhou Vice-Mayor Ye Donghua told People's Daily Health.
As the only pilot area for the development of new vaccines and specific diagnostic reagents in China, the Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone is present home to more than 20 percent of the diagnostic reagent companies in Jiangsu province.
