The Taizhou Medical High Tech Zone – also known as Gaogang district, located in Taizhou city, in East China's Jiangsu province – worked hard to promote consumer spending and to ensure market supplies during the recent Spring Festival and it achieved great results.
From Jan 21 to 27, statistics showed that key trading businesses in the zone achieved sales of about 47.16 million yuan ($6.96 million), up 3.2 percent year-on-year.
Elsewhere, retail sales hit 45.27 million yuan, up 3.9 percent and the catering sector revenue hit 3.51 million yuan, up 2.1 percent year-on-year.
Large shopping malls carried out a number of promotional activities to boost spending. The average daily volume of shoppers at the Mixc shopping center during the holiday was around 60,000, with a peak traffic of 80,000 people in a single day.
To stimulate things, the local government issued shopping vouchers worth 500 yuan each to over 15,000 employees who stayed in the zone during the holiday. These could be used in nearly 40 auto 4S stores, over 30 key retail businesses and over 20 catering businesses in the region.
At the box office, on Jan 21-28 the zone's nine theaters screened films a total of 2,541 times, attracting an audience of 109,272 people. The average attendance rate of the films The Wandering EarthⅡ, Full River Red and Deep Sea was 85 percent.
