China's first State-level Pharmaceutical High-tech Zone, the Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone – administered by Taizhou city, East China's Jiangsu province – covers an area of 408.73 square kilometers. Focusing on the health-related industry, high-end equipment manufacturing, petrochemicals and new materials, and electronic information, it speeds up upgrading of foundational industries and modernization of related chains so as to improve industrial competitiveness. The zone has become a window of opening up to the outside world and an important high-tech industrial base in Jiangsu province.
It consists of five functional zones, namely the Taizhou bio-pharmaceutical industrial park, a new chemical material industrial park, an electronic information industrial park (comprehensive bonded area), a high-end equipment manufacturing industrial park and a port logistics industrial park, presenting a development pattern of complementary advantages and joint construction.
The biopharmaceutical industrial park has been built into a national innovation park, a national innovative industrial cluster pilot zone, China's only new vaccine and specific diagnostic reagent industry cluster development pilot zone, a national major special industrialization demonstration base for new drugs, and a national demonstration base of new industrialization.
It is committed to building a bio-pharmaceutical health-related industry system with a "3+2" industry chain supported by the three major industries of biological drugs (vaccines, antibody drugs), diagnostic reagents, high-end medical devices, and new chemical drug preparations, and the two characteristic industries of special medical formula food and animal health care.
The new chemical material industrial park develops high-end petrochemical new materials and health-related new materials and equipment to fulfill "one pillar and one new industry". Relying on the leading enterprise CNOOC (Taizhou) Petrochemical Co Ltd, the park prioritizes the development of high-end lubricants and special oils, high-end polyolefins and chemical new materials, and is committed to building a distinctive medium-sized petrochemical industry base that leads in China by the end of 2025.
The electronic information industry park continuously takes the electronic information industry as the mainstay, and focuses on building high-end protective components and core components of electronic products, automotive electronics, smart power and electrical and medical electronic equipment and related products. To facilitate the health industry, the park aims at developing medical electronics and IVD industry supporting and pharmaceutical equipment. Taking the comprehensive bonded zone as the basis, it will comprehensively promote high-quality economic development with a superimposition effect on the electronic information industry and the biomedical industry, with bonded logistics functions.
The high-end equipment manufacturing industrial park is building a "1 + 3" modern industrial system supported by the automobile and parts industry led by Great Wall Motor Vehicles, high-end equipment manufacturing industries, health-related industries, and modern service industries, and is striving to create a national-level economic and technological development zone and a characteristic innovation and development platform above the provincial level.
In line with the trend of port function iteration and port-industry-city integration, the port logistics industrial park strives to "becoming larger, stronger, and special". It is building a "1+2" industrial system with the port industry as the "one wing", and the health-related industry and innovative economy as the "dual core", positioning itself as an advantageous functional area for high-quality development in Taizhou.
