Conference in Taizhou accelerates growth of health industries

Taizhou is stepping up efforts to develop next-generation health industries. On Nov 23, the city hosted the second Yangtze River Delta (Taizhou) Synthetic Biology Conference, where leading academicians shared forward-looking insights and agreements on eight high-quality projects were signed.

The event aimed to build a collaboration platform connecting government, industry, academia, research institutions, and finance to explore emerging trends in synthetic biology.

The eight new projects focus on a wide range of applications, including fully biodegradable agricultural film, humanized pig serum albumin, POCT in-vitro diagnostic reagents, new medical devices, Group B meningococcal vaccines, cultivation and high-value use of Chinese medicinal herbs, medical-grade dressings, and functional skincare products.

"We are committed to developing synthetic biology as a future-oriented industry," said Zhang Kun, vice-mayor of Taizhou. "By focusing on biopharmaceuticals, health foods, and new materials, we are building a complete service chain from gene engineering and strain development to pilot testing and commercial production. A number of promising companies, including Yaohai Bio-Pharma and Biointron, are growing rapidly, shaping a dynamic and fast-expanding industrial ecosystem."

Biomanufacturing is considered a strategic engine of the fourth industrial revolution, with its green, low-carbon, and sustainable advantages reshaping traditional industries. Synthetic biology is emerging as a key technology for transforming fundamental bioscience into real productivity, with strong application potential in pharmaceuticals, food, energy, materials, and chemicals.
