Taizhou's private shipbuilding sector is growing rapidly, with Jingjiang at its core. Led by industry giants such as Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group and New Times Shipbuilding, the Taizhou fleet is carving out a strong presence on the global stage.

Today, Jingjiang hosts 208 shipbuilding and related enterprises, forming China's largest and most complete private shipbuilding cluster. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the sector entered a new fast-growth stage, adding around 10,000 workers.

Jingjiang now accounts for roughly one-tenth of global output, one-fifth of new orders in China, and two-fifths of Jiangsu's figures. This year, the city's shipbuilding industry is expected to reach 47 billion yuan ($6.64 billion) in revenue, up about 30 percent year-on-year.

According to Zhou Kewei, deputy general manager of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, the company has delivered 41 new vessels so far this year and secured 48 new orders. Its orderbook now totals 254 ships worth $23.9 billion, with production scheduled through 2030.

New Times Shipbuilding is also upgrading rapidly, using industrial internet, big data tools, and AI to improve design efficiency and construction quality. The company is moving deeper into high-value segments, including large LNG carriers, car carriers, and methanol- or ammonia-powered vessels.

Supporting industries, from marine engines and steering gear to boilers, pumps, electrical equipment, interior materials, and piping, are also expanding. With robust demand from shipyards, many suppliers are applying for additional land to increase production capacity, signaling continued momentum for Jingjiang's thriving maritime economy.
