China Medical City welcomes completion of new medical device project

A new milestone has been reached in Taizhou's China Medical City with the completion of Bonss Medical's high-end medical device R&D project, a 670-million-yuan ($94.77 million) investment set to begin full production next year.

"The project is designed as an integrated base combining both R&D and manufacturing," said Xiong Jibin, deputy general manager of Bonss Medical. For years, the company's Chengdu branch has undertaken most of its research and development, while the Taizhou headquarters has focused on producing surgical consoles and consumables. With the new facilities now ready, part of the R&D work will shift to Taizhou.

According to Xiong, Bonss Medical plans to keep the development of early-stage products and technologies in Chengdu, advance industrialization in Taizhou, and conduct application-end optimization to ensure products fully meet market needs.

The new project will also significantly increase production capacity. In addition to the company's signature low-temperature plasma surgical system, the facility will manufacture power systems for orthopedics and other minimally invasive medical devices. "Our current Taizhou base runs four production lines. The new project will allow for more than 10, enabling an annual output of 8,700 surgical consoles and 1.2 million consumable units," Xiong said.

Chairman Huang Xuehua noted that the company invests over 10 percent of its annual revenue into R&D and maintains a team of more than 100 researchers to secure a strong position for China's high-end medical devices in global competition.

To date, Bonss Medical has obtained 217 authorized patents. Its low-temperature plasma radiofrequency surgical system is sold in more than 80 countries and regions, including Russia, the United Kingdom, and France, ranking among the top performers in global markets.
