Taizhou's efforts to improve the biodiversity of the Yangtze River were recently recognized at the 2023 World Coastal Forum, where the initiative was listed among the top nine ecological protection and restoration cases in Jiangsu province.

Over the years, Taizhou has strengthened its biodiversity observation network and monitoring capabilities. The adoption of eDNA, an innovative ecological monitoring technology, involves collecting detached fish DNA to identify fish species in a non-invasive manner.

The application of eDNA in the Yangtze River has revealed information about 55 fish species.

Recently launched in Gaogang district, Taizhou, the Chunjiang Wetland-Fengqi Lake Observatory is the first standardized riverside biodiversity observatory in Jiangsu province. It offers scientific insights into changes in the ecological environment and biodiversity conservation in Taizhou city and Jiangsu province.

Moreover, Taizhou has taken a pioneering role in conducting fundamental surveys on ecological protection redline areas throughout the province. This initiative encompasses environmental quality management and protection and aims to establish a municipal ecological supervision system.
