The inaugural bird-watching season opened at Lixiahe National Wetland Park in Xinghua, a county-level city in Taizhou city, Jiangsu province on Dec 5.
Covering 1,305 hectares, the park has a wetland rate of 97.22 percent and is home to 208 bird species, several of which enjoy national level protection.
During the event, Jiangsu Taizhou Image Art Center of the People's Photography was launched in Xinghua. Liu Xiaomin, the deputy editor-in-chief, said that the center will be committed to leveraging cultural resources for biodiversity protection and supporting the development of beautiful rural areas.
Officials from the Taizhou municipal housing and construction bureau said that bird-watching tourism provides a unique direction for the construction of the Duotian Characteristic Rural Demonstration Zone. Future plans for the zone include enhancing the brand image of characteristic pastoral villages, and integrating village construction with biodiversity protection.
