The Taizhou Port Economic Development Zone in Taizhou city, East China's Jiangsu province now ranks fourth among over 2,100 provincial-level development zones, according to the data released at a seminar on Oct 28.

Hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the seminar also released the 2023 China Provincial Development Zone High-Quality Development Top 100 List.

The evaluation index system covers five areas including a zone's comprehensive strength, regional vitality, innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as 23 specific indicators such as regional gross domestic product and total tax revenue.

Founded in February 2002, it was approved as a provincial-level economic development zone in April 2006 and is now striving to become a national-level zone.

Last year, its annual regional GDP reached 10.6 billion yuan ($1.46 billion), an increase of 8 percent year-on-year.
