Italian teens enchanted by cultural delights in Taicang
Over 60 Italian teenagers and their parents from Macerata enjoyed a vibrant day exploring Taicang on March 28, marking the 10th anniversary of the friendship city relationship.
The young visitors were captivated by a blend of traditional and modern experiences, from fishing for bass at the Rose Manor Scenic Area to crafting qingtuan, a sweet green rice ball, ahead of Qingming Festival.

"Wow! This is my first time fishing — it's incredible!" said Leonardo, gripping his rod as peers cheered each catch. The lush greenery and free-roaming turtles at the Rose Manor added to their wonder. At Taicang's tourism exhibition hall, interactive screens showcased the city's history and rural charm, while an emerging "pixel art" workshop let them create colorful designs.
Dressed in hanfu, traditional Chinese clothes, the group explored Wanfeng village, learning about ancient scholarly pursuits. Elizabeth and her friends filmed videos in a serene courtyard, praising Chinese aesthetics.

"The culture is so unique!" she smiled. Strolling through Shaxi Ancient Town's cobblestone streets, they marveled at the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties' architectures and artisan crafts, noting differences from Italian towns.
The day culminated in a lively commercial district where performers dressed as the Twelve Flower Goddesses, representing fairies corresponding to 12 seasonal flowers in Chinese folk religion, mesmerized the crowd.

Since 2013, over 600 exchanges have strengthened ties. In 2023, Taicang Cultural Tourism Development Group and Italy's ViaSoccer LLC signed a cooperation agreement, and this visit tested tailored cultural tours for international youth. "This trip showcases Taicang's potential as a global cultural destination," said a group representative.
