The Global New Energy Vehicle Cooperation and Development Forum (GNEV2026) was held in Jiading district, Shanghai, on Aug 20, bringing together industry experts, companies and research institutions to explore new opportunities for global cooperation in the automotive sector.
The forum focused on overseas expansion, technology cooperation, trade compliance, financial services and regional market development.
Zhang Yongwei, chief expert at China EV100 International, said China's auto industry is moving from an export model based mainly on trade and manufacturing to one focused on integrated services and local operations.
As Chinese automakers expand overseas, parts suppliers are following close behind. Audiowell Electronics (Guangdong) Co Ltd, which produces ultrasonic sensors widely used in automatic parking systems, has built a factory in Malaysia and plans to further develop local operations alongside Chinese auto brands.
Speakers also highlighted China's strengths in new energy and smart vehicle technologies, agreeing that its competitive supply chain and innovations are creating new opportunities for global cooperation.
The forum also saw China EV100, Shanghai International Automobile City and Thailand's Assumption University sign a cooperation agreement on automotive talent development, aiming to strengthen exchanges and train professionals for the global auto industry.
