A vehicle lighting laboratory in Shanghai's Jiading district has opened a faster certification pathway for Chinese automakers targeting the European and Indian markets.
DEKRA's Shanghai Jiading Vehicle Lighting Laboratory has earned witness recognition from the Automotive Research Association of India, allowing vehicle lighting products to achieve both European and Indian certifications through one testing process.
Under the new arrangement, ARAI engineers will witness the entire testing process at the Jiading lab and use DEKRA's original test data for European UN ECE certification. Once the product receives the European E-mark, it can also obtain ARAI certification without additional testing.
Previously, companies had to prepare separate samples and conduct independent tests for the two markets, leading to higher costs and longer certification times. The new process eliminates duplicate testing, reduces costs, and accelerates product launches.
Europe and India are two of the world's largest overseas markets for automotive lighting, but each has its own certification system.
The Jiading laboratory can conduct comprehensive ECE testing for a wide range of vehicle lights, including headlamps, turn signals, daytime running lights, and fog lamps. With the new ARAI recognition, the lab has strengthened its cross-border testing services to support Chinese automakers and suppliers as they expand into overseas markets.
Founded in 1925, DEKRA is a global testing, inspection, and certification organization. The company said it will continue to improve its one-stop compliance services to support Chinese automakers entering international markets.
