A lively lantern exhibition, celebrating the upcoming Chinese New Year, has opened in Shanghai's Nanxiang Ancient Town in Jiading district.
The display, part of the city's 2026 intangible cultural heritage lantern festival, runs nightly from 5:30 to 10 pm to usher in the Year of the Horse.
The centerpiece is a group of large, rotating lanterns that bring local features to life, including Nanxiang town's famous steamed stuffed buns. Charming horse-shaped lanterns adorn the trees and historic streets, casting a festive glow. The exhibition aims to convey New Year blessings through its brilliant display.

"The festive atmosphere is strong here. The lanterns instantly bring in the New Year's spirit," said a visitor. For many, this has become an essential tradition. "I bring my child every year. It's more meaningful now because it's my zodiac year, the Year of the Horse," another shared.
Beyond the lights, Nanxiang is set to host cultural performances, art exhibitions, and traditional markets throughout the festival, which runs until early March.
