This year, the strawberry season in Shanghai's Jiading district arrived later than usual, but the delay has resulted in strawberries of exceptional quality and flavor. Farms across the district are now bustling with ripe, juicy strawberries ready for picking.
At the Nongdeng Strawberry Cooperative, vibrant red strawberries fill the air with their sweet aroma. Manager Zhang Li said their farm is primarily cultivating the "Hongyan" variety, known for its juicy sweetness and delicate texture. They've also introduced new varieties like "Yuewang" and "Jiande Bailu" to offer more options for enthusiasts.
At the Luyao strawberry base, farmer Li Weijia also said that while the strawberries are a month late, the extended growth period has produced fuller, sweeter fruit. The peak picking season is expected to begin in mid-January.
Their "Yuexin" strawberries recently pocketed a gold medal at the 2025 Jiading District Premium Strawberry Promotion Event. Other varieties like "Zhangji" and "White Strawberry" are also available, promising a treat for all strawberry lovers.
