The closing ceremony of the 2024 Sinology Youth Scholars Workshop, organized by the International Confucian Association, was held at the Confucius Academy in Guiyang, Guizhou province on July 14.
The workshop, comprising 22 participants from 15 countries, marked the inauguration of the Guiyang Confucius Academy Research Base, which is also the International Research Park of Chinese Culture.
The ICA’s Secretary-General Jia Deyong highlighted the significance of Guiyang for Wang Yangming, a prominent Ming Dynasty (1268-1644) philosopher, to develop his “Philosophy of Mind”, and emphasized the workshop's role in promoting cultural exchange and knowledge integration. Jia encouraged participants to contribute to mutual learning between civilizations.
Certificates were presented to participants by officials, and attendees shared their experiences.
The workshop, part of the "ICA’s Scholars Program", aims to foster understanding of Chinese history and culture among young scholars worldwide. It has been held for three sessions since 2021.
This year’s session started on July 7 and was the largest in terms of the number of participants, the most diverse in composition, and the longest in duration.
Focused on "Integrating Knowledge with Action, Exploring the Origins of Mind Philosophy", this year’s workshop provided a platform for participants to delve into the Yangming culture, Guiyang's heritage, and China's multi-dimensional development through lectures, on-site teaching, experiential learning, and exchange sharing.
