A poetry education seminar organized by the International Confucian Association (ICA) Committee for Education and Promotion and the Youyang County Government took place in Youyang, Chongqing on May 27-28.
The event was attended by Shi Yongqi, vice secretary-general of the ICA and director of the institute’s committee for education and promotion, Wang Chen, president of the China Language and Literature Press Association, officials from Youyang county and over twenty experts and scholars in the field of poetry education from universities and research institutions.
Poetry education, an important part of Confucianism and Chinese culture, plays a crucial role in learning and self-cultivation, nurturing the human spirit, cultivating talents, and improving the social atmosphere.
In 2021, the ICA's Committee for Education and Promotion launched a poetry education forum, as a continuing and in-depth effort to promote and explore the development of poetry education.
During the opening ceremony, Huang Yi, deputy county magistrate of Youyang, introduced the region's poetry tradition and expressed hopes that the seminar will promote poetry education and Chinese traditional culture in the county.
Shi highlighted the significance of poetry education in Chinese culture and its importance in Confucianism.
Wang emphasized the importance of poetry in language arts and its widespread presence in Chinese civilization.
During the keynote speech session which was chaired by Zhang Shunping, deputy director of the ICA’s committee for education and promotion, representatives from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Chinese Poetry Society, Shanghai University, Southwest University, and Beijing Normal University respectively delivered themed speeches. Professor Xu Xiping from the School of Literature of Southwest Minzu University conducted the evaluation.
In the following discussion session, experts and scholars discussed various themes related to poetry, including its cultural significance, modern inheritance, and role in society.
