During Cultural and Natural Heritage Day on June 13, an important event focusing on the protection of cultural relics in Inner Mongolia was held at the World Heritage Site of Xanadu.

At the event, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Cultural Heritage Bureau presented plaques to five newly designated autonomous region-level archaeological site parks. The Fengzhou Ancient City Ruins in Hohhot was among them.

The Fengzhou Ancient City Ruins are located in Saihan district, Hohhot. The city of Fengzhou was founded in 920 AD and was settled for 450 years. The Wanbu Huayanjing Pagoda, situated at the northwest corner of the Fengzhou Ancient City Ruins, is known as the "White Pagoda" by locals due to its chalk-coated, pure white exterior. Standing 55.6 meters tall, this octagonal, seven-story pavilion-style structure of brick and timber is the oldest and tallest ancient building in the Hohhot region.

In recent years, the conservation and adaptive reuse of the Fengzhou Ancient City Ruins have achieved significant progress. The Fengzhou Ancient City Museum, established around the Wanbu Huayanjing Pagoda, officially opened on Sept 29, 2023. Its exhibition design is both creative with technologically advanced, employing multimedia and other technological means to transport visitors back to the streets and markets of Liao-Dynasty (916-1125) Fengzhou.

The Fengzhou Ancient City Museum showcases cultural relics from the Liao Dynasty, Jin Dynasty (1115-1234), and Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), reflecting the ethnic mixing, cultural exchange, architectural artistry, and socioeconomic development of the Hohhot region during these periods.
