Hohhot delivers impressive economic report card for Q1 of 2026
Hohhot's regional GDP reached 102.96 billion yuan ($15.14 billion) in the first quarter of 2026, up 5 percent year on year. The added value of the tertiary industry hit 74.07 billion yuan, up 4.8 percent year on year and contributing 69.7 percent to economic growth.

From January to February, the operating revenue of the city's above-scale service sector reached 18.82 billion yuan, up 5.7 percent year on year. Transportation, warehousing and postal services stood out, accounting for over 60 percent of above-scale service sector revenue and growing 5.4 percent year on year.
Hohhot's private-sector business entities in the tertiary industry totaled 381,671, up 7.99 percent year on year and accounting for 95.94 percent of all tertiary-sector business entities. They dominated in services, retail, logistics, culture, tourism, and other fields.
During the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) period, Hohhot will strive to build itself into a regional demonstration zone for the development of the modern service industry, driving quality upgrades in the service sector.
In the productive services sector, Hohhot will accelerate professional development and expand new scenarios such as smart logistics, green logistics, and low-altitude logistics. It plans to build 20 modern service industry clusters, enabling the service sector to drive the high-quality development of the real economy.
In the consumer services sector, Hohhot will use the night-time economy to boost consumption. It will also deepen the development of culture and tourism, enhance the quality of performance and event-based economies, and continuously work to strengthen the city's attractiveness and competitiveness.
