Hohhot helps individuals with disabilities
In Hohhot, various initiatives to support individuals with disabilities are strengthening the foundation of public welfare. From a cafe managed by young people with autism to a nail salon run by individuals with hearing impairments, these institutions enable them to earn an income and regain confidence and dignity through hard work.
Hohhot is advancing the high-quality development of services for people with disabilities through multi-dimensional efforts in employment, rehabilitation, education, and social security. In 2024, the city implemented 18 employment and entrepreneurship support policies, helping over 2,000 urban and rural residents with disabilities find new jobs, supporting 26 institutions that employ or support entrepreneurship among people with disabilities, and providing employment for 528 individuals. From 2022 to the end of 2024, the Hohhot Disabled Persons' Federation provided employment services 390 times for 209 recent graduates with disabilities.
In 2024, the number of designated rehabilitation assistance institutions for children with disabilities in the city increased to 23, providing rehabilitation training assistance to 1,120 children with disabilities. The enrollment rate of children and adolescents with disabilities in compulsory education rose to over 97 percent.
The city established nine grassroots cultural and art centers for people with disabilities and nine grassroots self-improvement fitness demonstration sites. It also formed the first city-level art troupe for individuals with disabilities in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, with athletes with disabilities achieving outstanding results in various competitions.
