Errentai Opera Huanghelian makes its debut in Hohhot

Huanghelian, an Errentai Opera created and performed by the Hohhot National Performing Arts Group, recently made its debut at the Hohhot National Theater.
Errentai Opera is a traditional Chinese folk opera that originated in the mid-western region of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Hebei provinces. It was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage item on May 20, 2006.
Based on true stories from Niuwan village in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Huanghelian tells the story of two lovers who helped their townsfolk out of poverty.
The organizer of the performance said that the opera portrays an increasingly powerful China, and shows the harmonious relationship between the Mongolian and Han ethnic groups.
The opera was selected to be performed during the 5th China National Minority Drama Show in Hohhot on July 13.
