Summer holiday rail trips to hit 7.27 million in Hohhot
Hohhot is expected to see a total of 7.27 million rail trips during this year's summer holiday travel rush, which runs from July 1 to Aug 31, according to China Railway Hohhot Group Co Ltd.
The Hohhot railway operator said that the city is expecting a 1.4 percent year-on-year increase in rail trips and a 2 percent increase in short-distance trips during this period.
Tickets from the mid-western region of Inner Mongolia to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and northeastern China are in short supply, while tickets to other areas remain plentiful, according to statistics.
To handle the increase in holiday passengers, the Hohhot railway operator has launched more trains to places such as Xilinhot, Baotou, Ordos, Jining, and Linhe.
It also introduced more trains to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other cities in northeastern China, increasing the daily passenger capacity to 10,000.
The railway department also opened new train lines running across China, Mongolia, and Russia, and from Hohhot to Hulunbuir. Tourists can admire the birch forests in Baikal or watch the sunrise in Hulunbuir while traveling on these trains.
