Hechi village benefits from refit

Mianhua village in Lucheng Mulam autonomous couty, Hechi, has witnessed great changes thanks to a government project to improve local welfare, according to local reports.

The village is one of the areas covered by the Guangxi poverty-relief migration project during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20), with 254 Mulam people from 57 households moving to new villages in 2016.

The government provided financial support to the poverty-stricken families to build new housing based on numbers of family members.

Wu Tiangao, a local villager, received 120,000 yuan ($17,400). His four-member family moved into a newly built house in September 2016.

Speaking about his new life, Wu said he is very happy and satisfied, "Life has changed so much. The new housing is equipped with running water and electric appliances such as a fridge and kitchen fan."

The two-story houses are surrounded by plants, neatly paved pathways and street lamps. Children can often be seen playing leisurely in the complex.

Besides running water and renovated roads that connect the village to other places, local government gave priority to the development of local agriculture. Fruit trees including oranges and grapes covering a total area of 565 mu (37.66 hectares) have been planted, and are expected to bring in extra 1.69 million yuan ($245 531.65) in income after three years.

At the same time, the government also encouraged local residents to work at an animal-raising cooperative, to earn extra money.

He Zhenquan, a local official expressed his confidence about the brighter future for Luocheng, saying "All the local officials will make joint efforts to promote the social welfare and realize the development goal".
